Chelsea captain Reece James has sent a strong message to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) before the FIFA Club World Cup final. He believes his team can surprise many. PSG enters as the favourites after a stellar season. Yet, Chelsea’s recent form shows they are ready for the challenge.
PSG sealed a European treble this season. They crushed Real Madrid 4-0 in the semi-final. As Champions League holders, they aim for the Club World Cup title. However, James insists Chelsea will fight hard.
Chelsea has won 13 of their last 15 matches across all competitions. They only lost to Newcastle and Flamengo, the latter with 10 men. Enzo Maresca’s side kept seven clean sheets in that run. They also qualified for the Champions League and won the Conference League.
“We expect a tough game,” James said. “They’re an amazing team. But we are, too. I think we will surprise a lot of people. We’ve come far in our journey. We’re all excited for the match.”

Chelsea created more goal attempts than any team in the tournament. They scored 14 goals, second only to PSG, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City (all with 16). PSG leads in goals scored and fewest conceded.
James downplayed the favourites tag, stating, “Stats and data don’t matter much to us. It’s two great young teams on the biggest stage, and we’ll go toe-to-toe.” When asked about their preparation, James added, “We’ll treat it like any game. It’s a final, but we prepare to win every time.”
