Kate, Britain’s Princess of Wales, announced on Monday that she has completed her preventative chemotherapy and is cancer-free.
In an Instagram post, the Princess of Wales shared that the experience has significantly altered her perspective, highlighting the importance of “simply loving and being loved.”
Princess of Wales underwent major abdominal surgery in January after doctors discovered cancer. Since then, Kate has been undergoing treatment and has shared her journey in a personal message accompanied by an intimate video with her husband and their three children: Princess Charlotte, 9, Princes George, 11, and Louis, 6. She revealed plans to engage in a few public commitments later this year, though she emphasized her primary goal remains to stay cancer-free.
“The relief of completing my chemotherapy treatment is immense,” Kate expressed. “The past nine months have been incredibly challenging for our family. Life can change suddenly, and we’ve had to endure this tough period.”
Kate first disclosed her cancer diagnosis in March, following a two-week hospital stay in January. Kensington Palace has kept details about her cancer type and treatment specifics private, stating only that her chemotherapy began in February.
She made her first public appearance of the year in June at King Charles’ official birthday military parade and attended Wimbledon. Kate described the cancer journey as “complex, scary, and unpredictable,” bringing her face to face with her vulnerabilities and granting her a new perspective on life.
King Charles, 75, who is also undergoing cancer treatment, and his wife Camilla reacted to Kate’s update as “wonderful news,” per a Buckingham Palace spokesperson, who added that they continue to support the princess fully.
The video, shot last month in Norfolk, showcased a healthy-looking Kate enjoying time with her family, walking through fields, playing cricket, and relaxing on a beach. She expressed gratitude for the global support and looks forward to resuming her public duties, though she plans to keep her schedule light.
“Staying cancer-free is now my focus,” Kate stated. “While I’ve completed chemotherapy, the road to full recovery remains long, and I must take it one day at a time.”
She concluded her message with solidarity for others battling cancer, “Out of darkness, can come light, so let that light shine bright.”
