The prime suspect in the murder of young gold medalist Itteqa Moin, identified as Zahir, has escaped from police custody during a court appearance.
Zahir was initially arrested in Balochistan by the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) Police, linked to the murder of Itteqa Moin, a 27-year-old mechanical engineer and Hafiz-e-Quran, who was killed resisting a robbery in Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal on June 1. Following his arrest, Zahir was incarcerated and was being transported to court when he managed to flee.
It has been reported that Zahir has connections with the Khuzdari group, known for its criminal activities. Authorities are intensively investigating the escape and are actively attempting to recapture him.
The Central Investigation Agency (CIA) had previously captured Zahir and other suspects who had escaped to Balochistan after the murder. The police are currently compiling the criminal records of these suspects.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Adil Chandio disclosed that significant evidence has been uncovered in the murder case, noting that the suspects are part of a trained group involved in vehicle thefts.
According to police, the group steals cars and motorcycles in Karachi and then sells them in Balochistan.
