President Dr. Arif Alvi assured various representatives from the media and journalism community of his support for the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) Amendment Bill 2023 during a meeting at Aiwan-e-Sadr. President Alvi discussed the bill’s features, emphasizing its benefits to the current media law. He also acknowledged the media’s collaborative efforts in introducing these amendments, especially those aimed at safeguarding the rights of media workers. Linking government advertisements with the timely payment of electronic media employees was highlighted as a key solution.

The president highlighted the challenges of fake news, particularly its influence on teenagers. He stressed the need for senior journalists to collaborate with academia to raise youth awareness about fake news and its implications. Dr Alvi urged for a comprehensive understanding of the new dynamics in media, especially social media, emphasizing the media’s role in promoting responsible and constructive usage.
