Climate Change Minister and Senator Sherry Rehman, citing the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), shared an advisory stating that pre-monsoon rains are forecasted from June 25th to June 30th, ending the prevailing heat wave.
According to the weather office, intermittent rain and wind-thundershowers are expected from today (Sunday) until June 30th in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, and various cities in Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Punjab. Similarly, from June 26th to June 29th, South Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan are also expected to experience the same weather conditions.
While the rains will bring relief, heavy downpours can lead to urban flooding and trigger landslides in vulnerable mountainous areas such as Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. On June 27th, heavy rain may cause flash flooding in the hill torrents of D G Khan and adjacent regions of northeastern Balochistan.
All relevant local departments have been instructed to remain alert, and tourists are advised to exercise caution during this period. Citizens are urged to stay away from weak infrastructure, power poles, and watercourses to avoid unfortunate incidents during strong winds and heavy rainfall.
The prevailing heat wave conditions are expected to subside throughout the forecasted period.
