PPP to challenge Rangers operations, NAB in court

Islamabad: In the wake of growing raids and arrests of suspects and corrupt elements by security agencies and national accountability departments, the PPP leadership has decided to challenge Rangers and NAB actions in Sindh in courts.
A source confirmed that PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari and his son and party chief Bilawal Bhutto Zardari have started consulting legal experts to thrash out a strategy to counter the actions.
The source said that as part of this strategy, the Sindh government will be taken on board to pass a law to make it binding on Rangers and NAB authorities to obtain prior permission from the chief minister before arresting any bureaucrat or a high profile figure.
The source said that any arrest made without the permission of the chief minister will be challenged in the court immediately.
According to the source, the PPP leadership was also looking minutely at the resignations tendered by two former premiers at the ECE meeting.
These resignations have perturbed Zardari because both former premiers extended the resignations when the ECE was endorsing his statement, which he made against the army.
Former Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf not only tendered resignation but also expressed his reservations over Zardari’s statement. Former PM Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani, while offering his resignation said that his son should be assigned responsibilities in the party in his place.
The PPP senior leadership is considering these resignations as a rebellion against party leadership, the source said.
The PPP has also hammered out a strategy to deal with the situation if governor rule is imposed in Sindh.  It has been decided that the PPP will resign from the National Assembly and Senate if governor rule is clamped in Sindh. The governor rule will also be challenged in courts. The party leadership has decided not to make any contact with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif besides reviewing the charter of democracy afresh, the source claimed.
