The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) is poised to establish the government in Sindh for an unprecedented fourth successive term, with Murad Ali Shah endorsed as the party’s candidate for the role of provincial chief minister.
In a press briefing after the PPP’s Sindh parliamentary committee assembly, Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari declared Murad Ali Shah as the nominee for the chief minister’s position.
Bilawal expressed the party’s intention to entrust Shah with the leadership role again, aiming to surpass previous achievements. “We will request him to assume the duties of this position again, to exceed our records,” stated the former foreign minister.
Murad Ali Shah initially assumed the role of Sindh chief minister in 2016 and was re-nominated for the position following the 2018 general elections.
Additionally, Bilawal Bhutto disclosed Naveed Anthony as the candidate for Deputy Speaker of the Sindh Assembly and Awais Shah for Speaker of the Sindh Assembly.
In the general elections conducted on February 8 for 130 seats in the Sindh Assembly, the PPP emerged victorious in 87 seats. The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan followed with 28 seats, the Grand Democratic Alliance and Jamaat-i-Islami secured two seats each, and 11 independents, supported by the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf, also won seats.
With a robust majority in the assembly, the PPP is positioned to elect its Speaker, Deputy Speaker, and Chief Minister without the need for coalition support.
