The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has officially nominated its Chairman, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, as the prime ministerial candidate for the forthcoming general elections scheduled for February 8.
The party’s highest decision-making body, the Central Executive Committee (CEC), confirmed the nomination during a meeting at Bilawal House in Lahore.
During the CEC meeting, which focused on strategizing for the upcoming elections, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was also confirmed to contest from NA-127 Lahore. He will face competition from Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Shaista Pervaiz Malik and a candidate backed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
The meeting also reviewed the party’s election manifesto, emphasizing youth and women empowerment, employment, health, and education. Furthermore, the committee reaffirmed its confidence in the leadership of Asif Ali Zardari and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
Bilawal’s Vision and Commitments
In a media interaction following the meeting, Bilawal, flanked by PPP Secretary General Taj Haider and former Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani, expressed his commitment to contesting the election from Lahore. He criticized the imposition of PML-N and PTI by previous regimes, describing them as representatives of the ruling elite and inept at addressing the country’s issues. Conversely, he touted the PPP as a party prioritizing people’s needs, evident in its timely manifesto and vision.
Bilawal promised the establishment of energy parks in every district, free electricity up to 300 units, quality education, a 200% increase in employee wages, and an expansion of the BISP network. He concluded by thanking the PPP CEC for his nomination and addressing the need for decisive action to combat terrorism and guide the country through crises.
