Lahore has witnessed many nominations for the upcoming general elections in 2024, with 470 nomination papers submitted for 14 National Assembly seats and 1,408 for 30 provincial seats, which indicates a highly competitive electoral landscape in one of Pakistan’s key cities.
The elections in Lahore are set to be a major political battleground with former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto, and other prominent politicians contesting for seats. For instance, in NA-117 of Lahore, People’s Party’s Asif Hashmi, PML-N’s Malik Riaz, and IPP’s Aleem Khan are among the 38 candidates.
Similarly, Maryam Nawaz and Aleem Khan are contesting in NA-119 with 34 nomination papers filed, showcasing the intensity of the electoral race.
Key Contests and Candidate Line-Up
The contest in Lahore’s NA-120 is equally noteworthy, with PML-N’s Saad Rafique and Ayaz Sadiq among 38 contenders. PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif is contesting from NA-123 among 19 candidates.
Other constituencies like NA-124, NA-125, and NA-126 also see a diverse pool of candidates, including Awn Chaudhry and Rana Zameer of IPP and PML-N’s Afzal Khokhar and Abdul Ghafoor.
In NA-127, Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto, PML-N’s Shaista Pervaiz Malik, and 34 other candidates have filed nomination papers, while Nawaz Sharif leads the contest in NA-130 with 27 other candidates. This electoral season is marked by the participation of numerous high-profile politicians, setting the stage for a highly anticipated general election in 2024.
