On Thursday, police conducted a raid at the residence of Javed Hashmi, a veteran political leader, and detained his son-in-law, Zahid Hashmi. This raid coincided with Hashmi hosting a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) convention at his ancestral home.
The raid targeted Zahid Hashmi, a PTI candidate from PP-220 Multan. Shah Mehmood Qureshi’s children, Zain and Mehrabano Qureshi, were also expected to attend the convention.
Hashmi’s Political Moves and Police Statement
Javed Hashmi, using the micro-blogging website X (formerly Twitter), claimed that about 20 police officers surrounded his house and forcibly entered.
In contrast, police stated that no one was taken into custody during the operation. Earlier, Hashmi had withdrawn his candidacy in favour of the local PTI candidate from NA-149 Multan. The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had accepted his nomination papers as an independent candidate for the upcoming general elections.
Hashmi announced his withdrawal from the elections and his decision to support the PTI candidate. He emphasized that he would not boycott the elections but instead campaign for the PTI candidate. Last month, Hashmi publicly declared his support for Imran Khan and the PTI.
