An application has been submitted with DCO Multan, seeking to bar Mufti Abdul Qavi from administering Eidul Fitr prayers and from Ruet-e-Hilal Committee membership after controversial selfies Qandeel Baloch.

The application was filed by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) newly elected chairman from Multan’s UC-81.

The petition contended that the recent pictures of Qandeel Baloch with Mufti Qavi that went viral on social media have hurt sentiments of masses.

The petitioner asked the Multan DCO to bar the cleric from administering Eidul Fitr prayers at Bagh-e-Langah Khan.

Baloch posted the pictures with Mufti Abdul Qavi on her Facebook and Twitter page on June 20 that had gone viral with thousands of shares.

Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Sardar Yousaf, reportedly, called the pictures ‘controversial’ and suspended Qavi National Ulema Mushaikh Council also.

“Qavi will not be allowed to attend meetings of the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee and National Ulema Mushaikh Council until further orders. Mufti Qavi’s fate will be decided after the opinion of the National Ulema Mushaikh Council regarding his selfies and behavior,” spokesman of the ministry.

Qavi, however, said that Baloch had requested to meet him and he was guiding her to follow a spiritual path.

The matter has been forwarded to National Ulema Mushaikh Council for further procedure.
