The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Monday won by-election for National Assembly Constituency NA-162 in Chichawatni district of Punjab.
According to unofficial and unconfirmed results from 280 polling stations out of total 293 showed that PML-N candidate Tufail Butt secured 72,733 votes, defeating Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Pakistan People’s Party.
PTI candidate Rai Murtaza bagged 60,856 votes and PPP’s Shahzad Saeed Cheema managed to get 15,707 votes.
The seat fell vacant after PTI MNA Rai Hassan Nawaz Khan was disqualified by the Supreme Court for concealing his assets.
PTI chairman Imran Khan had held an election rally a couple of days ago in Chichawatni, in which he had slammed the PML-N government and urged voters to elect PTI’s candidate again from the constituency.
Hamza Shahbaz Sharif congratulated the PML-N candidate and termed the victory as proof of Nawaz Sharif’s wisdom and tolerance.
