Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz candidates defeated PTI in Jhelum and Burewala by-elections.
According to unofficial results PML-N candidate Nawabzada Matloob Mehdi won National Assembly constituency NA-63 Jhelum beating rival Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) candidate Fawad Chaudhry.
The ruling party’s candidate Raja Matloob bagged 82,896 votes followed by PTI’s candidate who obtained 74,819 votes.
Around 191,092 registered voters exercised their right to vote. The seat had fell vacant after the death of PML-N’s Malik Iqbal Mehdi, who had won the constituency in the 2013 general elections.
Those participating in the election include Dewan Hashmat Hayat Pakistan Muslim League – Quaid (PML-Q) and Jahangir Mahmood Mirza of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).
The voting process was supervised by 314 presiding officers, 976 assistant presiding officers and 976 polling officers, according to election commission sources.
Chaudhry Yousuf Kasailia of PML-N defeated PTI candidate Ayesha Nazir in PP 232 Burewala by the margin of 1056 votes in a close contest. Yousuf Kasailia secured 51,323 votes while Ayesha Nazir Jatt bagged 50,267 votes to stay runner-up.
The turnout of voters in Burewala remained around 50 per cent.
The voting process in both constituencies started at 8:00 am and continued till 5:00 in the evening without any break.
