PML-N’s newly elected Balochistan members agreed to nominate Sheikh Jaffar Mandokhail for governor and Rahila Hameed Durrani as the assembly speaker. This decision emerged from a PML-N Parliamentary Group meeting led by Jaffar Mandokhail, focusing on Balochistan’s government formation.
The meeting drew participation from notable figures, including ex-chief minister Jam Mir Kamal Khan Alyani and other elected representatives. Attendees advocated for PML-N to secure key ministries and advisory positions within the Balochistan cabinet while expressing concerns about the Balochistan Awami Party’s (BAP) involvement in the government.
Governor Malik Abdul Wali Kakar has called for the inaugural session of the new provincial assembly on February 28. This session will include the swearing-in of the new members, presided over by the outgoing speaker, Mir Jan Muhammad Jamali. Following this, the election schedule for the speaker and deputy speaker will be announced.
Additionally, a four-party alliance plans a protest on February 28 outside the assembly, voicing concerns over alleged election rigging.
PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif, the nominee for premier, met with the party’s Balochistan delegation in Lahore on Saturday. He commended their dedication and discussed efforts towards political stability and development in Pakistan and Balochistan. Shehbaz emphasized prioritizing national interests over political ones and briefed on government formation strategies in Balochistan.
