Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, just a day into his tenure as Pakistan’s 24th Prime Minister, unveiled a federal relief initiative for the victims of Gwadar’s severe rains on Tuesday.
In Gwadar, battered by recent heavy rains, Shehbaz declared a compensation of Rs750,000 for families whose homes were destroyed. Households with partially damaged homes will receive Rs350,000. Bereaved families will get Rs2 million, and the injured will be awarded Rs500,000 each.
Shehbaz assured rapid aid distribution, targeting completion within four days, and confirmed the package’s extension to other rain-impacted regions beyond Balochistan.
The Prime Minister also disclosed plans for the provincial government to cover Rs400 million in losses from 83 destroyed boats, highlighting the economic toll on the local community.
He reported 44 fatalities and 46 injuries, including children and elderly, across the country due to the rains.
In addressing the disaster response, Shehbaz announced the provision of 7,000 ration bags for distribution through a partnership between the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and Balochistan officials, ensuring support until all displaced persons return home.
