Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed his willingness to engage positively with neighbouring India, even as diplomatic interactions between the two countries have remained at a standstill since 2019. “We are prepared to talk with everyone, even with our neighbour, provided that the neighbour is serious about talking about serious matters,” said PM Shehbaz. He emphasised that Pakistan, a nuclear power, does not intend to be an aggressor but urges regional economic competition instead of conflict. He further underscored the need for India to recognise that normalcy cannot be achieved unless the existing issues are addressed through peaceful dialogues.
Developmental Focus: Ties with the US and China
Shehbaz Sharif’s comments came as he addressed the inaugural session of the Pakistan Minerals Summit, aimed at promoting Foreign Direct Investment and furthering the country’s development. The PM highlighted Pakistan’s willingness to work with the United States, similar to its existing cooperation with China. “We want to have the best relations with them… based on mutual respect and trust,” he remarked. The Premier also encouraged attendees at the summit to act towards the development and prosperity of Pakistan, stating, “Today is the day to learn lessons from the past and move forward in unison.”
