On July 3, 2025, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi credited Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif with a pivotal role in securing a ceasefire between Iran and Israel after a 12-day conflict. Naqvi also addressed the recent Pakistan-India clash, noting that the damage was minimal.
The Iran-Israel conflict, sparked by Israel’s June 13 airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites, killed key commanders and prompted Iran’s missile retaliation. Sharif’s diplomatic intervention, including a call with Iranian President Pezeshkian, facilitated a U.S.-proposed ceasefire.
Pakistan’s support for Iran at the UN Security Council and OIC, condemning Israeli aggression, bolstered its stance. Naqvi, speaking at a Muharram security press conference, praised Sharif’s “key role” in de-escalating the crisis, per Geo News.

Pakistan-India Conflict Update
Naqvi addressed the 87-hour Pakistan-India conflict triggered by India’s airstrikes following the Pahalgam incident, which killed 26 tourists in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). Pakistan’s “Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos” targeted Indian military sites, with no civilian strikes, Naqvi emphasised. India’s 11 missiles caused 53 deaths, including 13 military personnel, but missed key targets like Pakistan’s aircraft. Naqvi noted Pakistan’s restraint minimised losses, unlike India’s aggressive approach.

During the press conference, Naqvi emphasised the importance of law enforcement and religious scholars in maintaining Muharram security and promoting sectarian harmony. Minister of State Talal Chaudhary called for unity to maintain order and combat terrorism. The government has deployed additional forces across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab, with 45% of Muharram processions flagged as high-risk, per police reports, to prevent incidents amid heightened regional tensions.
