General Raheel Sharif, earlier today, arrived in Karachi on a brief visit to the city to review anti-criminal crackdown being carried out by the paramilitary Rangers. According to an ISPR press release, the army chief visited Sindh Rangers headquarters where he was briefed by DG Rangers on security situation in Karachi, especially the ongoing operation along with other law-enforcement agencies (LEAs).

ISPR said the COAS appreciated gains of the operation by Rangers, police, and intelligence agencies and expressed his resolve that the forces “will go to any extent to ensure peace in Karachi.”

The army chief was later due to join Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif who arrived in the city today to preside over a high-level meeting on law-and-order.

The PM will chair a meeting of the ‘Sindh Apex Committee’ to review the implementation of National Action Plan (NAP) aimed at eradication militancy and terrorism.

Sources said the PM would also be briefed over the  progress in case of the 2012 Baldia factory fire that claimed over 260 lives.
