Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will today chair a meeting with ministry of petroleum and oil marketing companies to regulate the petrol supply in the country.
The situation regarding the demand and supply of petroleum products during the next two months in the country will be reviewed in the meeting. Petroleum Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi will brief the meeting in this regard.
It should be mentioned here that PM Sharif has cancelled his scheduled visit to Switzerland where he was to attend the World Economic Forum.
A spokesman of the Prime Minister House said that “the premier took the decision due to ‘national issues’ including petrol crisis. The premier is keeping abreast of the latest developments through a special cell formed in the ministry of petroleum for this purpose”.
The ministers and other concerned officials from Finance, Petroleum and Water and Power ministries will attend today’s high level meeting, the spokesman added.
Meantime, the officials from the petroleum ministries and representatives of oil marketing companies held a joint meeting yesterday and decided to ensure daily supply of 15,000 tonnes of petrol across the country.
It should be mentioned here that previously, the daily supply was 12,000 tonnes in the country.
It is pertinent to note here that petrol crisis entered eighth day today as life in major Punjab cities including Lahore, Rawalpindi and Gujranwala remained effectively crippled.
