Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has resumed its flight operations to the United Kingdom after a five-year, three-month pause.
The first flight departed from Islamabad to Manchester on Saturday. This marks a significant step in reconnecting Pakistan and the UK.
PIA will begin with two weekly flights to the UK. Flights are scheduled for Tuesdays and Saturdays from Islamabad Airport. All necessary preparations at the airport have been completed. A special ceremony was held to mark the occasion, attended by Defence Minister Khawaja Asif.
The airline’s administration has worked to ensure a smooth restart. The CEO conducted a detailed inspection of the Boeing 777 aircraft designated for the route.

The flight ban was originally imposed in July 2020. It followed a statement by the then-aviation minister that raised concerns about the credentials of some PIA pilots. The suspension separated many families and impacted trade and travel. The resumption of flights is a milestone in overcoming that chapter.
The British High Commissioner to Pakistan, Jane Marriott, welcomed the decision. She called it a “historic moment” that will strengthen ties between the two countries.
