In a major step to enhance its operations, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has reestablished eight international routes in the last six months.

Details provided by the Aviation Ministry to the National Assembly indicate that this development marks a crucial step in PIA’s efforts to rebuild its global network and enhance passenger connectivity.

List of Restored Routes of Pakistan Internation Airlines

  1. Islamabad to Paris
  • Resumed after a gap of 4 years and 5 months.
  • Operated using Boeing 777 aircraft.
  1. Turbat to Sharjah and Al Ain

  • Both routes were restored after 3 years and 4 months.
  • Operated using Airbus A320 aircraft.
  1. Lahore to Kuwait
  • Resumed after 7 months.
  • Operated using Airbus A320 aircraft.

The Aviation Ministry explained that seven of the restored routes were previously suspended due to a shortage of aircraft, while the European Union restricted the Islamabad-Paris route. The restoration of these routes reflects PIA’s commitment to overcoming operational challenges and expanding its international footprint.

PIA’s Future Expansion Plans

In addition to the restored routes, PIA has announced ambitious plans to expand its operations further:

  • Direct Flights to the UK: Defence Minister Khawaja Asif confirmed that PIA will resume direct flights to the United Kingdom by the end of February 2025.
  • European Destinations: The airline plans to launch flights to 19 European cities, including Barcelona and Milan.
  • North American Routes: PIA is also preparing to start flights to the United States and Canada.

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif emphasized that these developments will significantly enhance PIA’s value, making it more attractive for privatization. He highlighted that the airline has been working diligently to revive its operations and reputation after facing numerous challenges in recent years.
