The federal government announced a Rs3.47 increase in petrol prices per litre for the upcoming fortnight, as stated in an official release on Wednesday.
A Finance Division notice revealed that high-speed diesel (HSD) prices have risen from Rs258.34 to Rs260.95, marking a Rs2.61 hike.
“The Oil & Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has calculated the consumer prices for petroleum products, considering the recent international market fluctuations,” the notification stated.
It declared the revised fuel prices will take effect from January 16.
This increase in petroleum prices stems from escalating international oil costs, influenced by US sanctions on oil exports to China and India.
Following these sanctions, crude oil prices have climbed beyond $81 per barrel—the peak since August 2024—amid concerns about the effects of US restrictions on Russian oil shipments.
Earlier in the month, the government raised petrol prices by Re0.56 per litre on New Year’s Eve for the first fortnight of 2025.
