Responding ably to criticism against the Women Protection bill adopted last week by the Punjab Assembly, the  Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid earlier today said the ruling party takes pride in supporting women.

“On one side there are those who want to torture mothers, sisters and daughters, and on the other there are people who want to protect them. Government is standing with those who want to protect women and we are proud of it, he said while talking to media.

The minister said instead of repeating past mistakes “we should correct and overcome them” as war of words harms the country.

Responding to a question regarding Karachi operation, he said every citizen paid a heavy price, expressing the resolve to “restore lights of Karachi”.

Protection of Women Against Violence Bill 2015 become a law in Punjab after Governor Malik Rafiq Rajwana signed it on Monday (today).

The Protection of Women Against Violence Bill 2015 declares physical violence, abusive language, stalking, cyber crimes, etc, against women a crime in Punjab.

The bill – passed by the Punjab Assembly on Wednesday – features redress for female victims of violence, criminalises all forms of violence against women and provides them with special centres which remove the bureaucratic hurdles that complicate a woman’s access to justice.
