The Chief of Army Staff, General Raheel Sharif has stated that, “the perpetual instability in Afghanistan had telling effects on the region.”
According to DG Inter-Service Public Relations (ISPR) Lt-Gen Asim Bajwa tweets, the Army Chief was addressing CENTCOM Asia Security Conference in Marshal Centre Munich, Germany.
Gen. Raheel discussed regional peace and security with the participants.
The COAS said despite hurdles, peace and reconciliation of vital importance for larger settlement in Afghanistan. He stressed on all stake holders to revive reconciliation process.
“Practical steps are required to manage Pak-Afghan borders for gainful conclusion of Operation Zarb-e-Azb,” the COAS said.
The Gen said, “A peaceful Afghanistan can open regional connectivity. China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) benefits can be shared.”
He said it is essential for socio-economic development of Pakistan to address menace of extremism.
