The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced a leadership change for the national women’s team. The board will not renew the contract of head coach Muhammad Wasim.
This decision follows the team’s difficult campaign in the recent ICC Women’s ODI World Cup. The Pakistan women’s team, led by captain Fatima Sana, qualified for the World Cup by topping the qualifiers in Lahore. However, their performance in the main tournament did not meet expectations.
The team finished last in the eight-team event, which India and Sri Lanka co-hosted. Pakistan played all its matches in Colombo, securing no wins. They lost four matches, and rain forced the abandonment of three others.
The PCB confirmed that Wasim’s contract officially ended with the conclusion of the World Cup. The board has decided to take the team in a new direction.

Muhammad Wasim, a former Test player and former chief selector for the men’s team, took on the coaching role last year. His tenure included some challenging results. The team lost in the Asia Cup semifinals and exited early in the T20 World Cup earlier this year.
According to reliable sources, the PCB has begun searching for a new head coach. The board is reportedly considering a foreign candidate for the role. If a suitable international coach is not found, former women’s team captain Bismah Maroof is a strong contender for the position.
The source also indicated that the rest of the support staff will see changes in the coming days. This signals a comprehensive review of the team’s management structure.
