The Punjab Assembly’s treasury benches voted for Chief Minister Parvez Elahi, with the opposition boycotting the session after tearing up the agenda pages.
After the Lahore High Court (LHC) declared that the governor could call the chief minister to seek house trust during a session, the province chief executive took the confidence vote.
The court ruled earlier today that the chief minister must have the backing of 186 MPs 24/7 to be elected.
A motion by Punjab Minister Mian Aslam Iqbal and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Raja Basharat supported Elahi as chief minister with 186 MPAs.
The opposition boycotted the session, stating that Punjab Governor Baligh-Ur-vote Rehman’s of confidence order was pending.
