The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the parliament has concluded its investigation into the unauthorized disclosure of citizen data by the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA).

The inquiry led to initiating departmental and disciplinary proceedings against individuals found guilty of oversight.

A Joint Investigation Team (JIT), led by the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) Director of Cybercrime, was tasked with examining a cyberattack that occurred in March 2023. This breach compromised the personal information of numerous citizens, including military personnel.

Upon concluding the investigation, the JIT presented its findings to the caretaker Prime Minister, Anwaarul Haq Kakar. Following the review, the Prime Minister directed NADRA to implement corrective measures based on the report’s recommendations.

The report suggests a combination of regulatory and technological enhancements to protect citizen data more effectively. Following the Prime Minister’s directive, steps toward compliance have been initiated.

These actions aim to improve emergency service delivery and enhance the overall security of the national database.
