In Pakistan, the fiscal year 2023-24 witnessed an astonishing 233% surge in mobile phone imports.

The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics reported the increase from the $570 million spent in 2022-23 to an impressive $1.899 billion in 2023-24. Particularly notable was June 2024, during which mobile phone imports amounted to $279 million, a 77% increase from May 2024 alone.

The country also saw a significant increase in mobile phone imports, with $1.898 billion worth of phones imported during the fiscal year 2023-24, marking a 233% growth compared to the previous year.

The rise in imports is particularly striking, given the ongoing efforts to boost local mobile phone manufacturing in Pakistan. Despite these efforts, the demand for imported mobile phones has not waned.

Moreover, the broader machinery group, which includes mobile phones, also saw substantial growth. The total imports in this category escalated from $5.812 billion in fiscal year 2023 to $8.501 billion in 2024, marking a 46% increase. This trend underscores a robust consumer demand for mobile technology and a dynamic shift in Pakistan’s import patterns.
