Pakistan reported its first “confirmed” case of the new BF.7 Omicron coronavirus on Tuesday.
On Tuesday, the Sindh provincial health department reported a case of BF-7, a highly contagious Covid-19 sub-variant.
It’s the first instance of the highly contagious coronavirus sub-variant in the nation, say officials with the health department. It was found in a male patient who was 49 years old.
The officials claimed that despite BF-7’s immune-evasive traits and the alarming indications of its growth in China, the variant appears relatively stable elsewhere.
“For instance, in the US, it was projected to represent 57% of infections through December 10, 2022, a decrease from 66% the week before. The department suggested that a lack of immunity from the previous infection and possibly vaccination in China may contribute to the situation in China and BF-7’s high reproduction rate.
The most recent data indicates that BF-7 transmits data faster than other variants. In addition, thanks to its shorter incubation period, it can infect people who have already had Covid-19 infection or have even been vaccinated.
The provincial health department previously acknowledged the city’s presence of the Omicron variant’s XBB and XBB-1 subvariants.
According to the most recent health department report, five new cases were discovered over the past two days, and 12 hospital patients were treated with ventilators
