Data released by the Pakistan Automobile Manufacturing Association (PAMA) indicates a sharp decline in car sales during the first four months of the current financial year 2023-24. Compared to the same period last year, car sales have plummeted by 47.4%.
The total number of cars sold during this period was 20,871, a considerable decrease from the 39,700 units sold in the corresponding months of the previous year.
The data provided a detailed breakdown of sales figures for various car models, highlighting the extent of the decline across different brands. Honda Civic and City witnessed a significant drop, with only 2,239 units sold in July-October 2023-24, compared to 6,416 units in the same period of 2022-23.
Toyota Corolla and Yaris experienced a 51% decline, with sales falling to 4,032 units from 8,253 units. Similarly, Suzuki Swift’s sales decreased by 55%, with only 1,576 units sold compared to 3,466 units last year.
Other Suzuki models also faced a downturn in sales. The Suzuki Cultus sold 1,142 units in the first four months of the current year, a decrease from 2,952 units in the same period last year. Suzuki WagonR’s sales dropped to 1,160 units from 2,181 units, while Suzuki Alto saw a 30% decline, with sales going from 13,464 units to 9,362 units.
Furthermore, Suzuki Bolan’s sales diminished to 684 units, down from 1,469 units in the same period last year. These figures collectively paint a challenging picture for the automobile industry in Pakistan for the year 2023-24.
