Naila Kiani, a Pakistani mother of two and Dubai-based banker, has become the first woman from Pakistan to successfully summit the 8,091-meter-high Annapurna I in Nepal.
Kiani reached the peak of the world’s 10th highest mountain on Monday morning between 6:30 am and 7:00 am alongside Pakistani mountaineer Shahroz Kashif and four others, including India’s Arjun Vajpayee. The achievement was announced by her expedition organizers, Seven Summit Treks.
This accomplishment makes Kiani the first Pakistani woman to have climbed four peaks over 8,000 meters, including K2, G1, and G2. She also has plans to conquer Mt. Everest, the world’s highest peak, and the 8,516-meter high Lhotse, the fourth tallest mountain, during her recent trip to Nepal.
Separately, Alpine Club of Pakistan secretary Karrar Haidri announced that Shahroz had become the youngest mountaineer worldwide to summit eleven peaks above 8,000 meters. He praised Pakistani climbers for setting new records in the field of mountaineering.
