Shehbaz tweeted his eagerness to work with Trump’s administration to enhance Pakistan-U.S. relations. “I look forward to working closely with the incoming administration to strengthen further and broaden the Pakistan-U.S. partnership,” he stated.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), also congratulated Trump, labelling the win a “historic comeback” and a “resounding” endorsement. Bhutto Zardari expressed hope for a peaceful global landscape, seeing the victory as an “anti-war mandate.”
Conversely, Omar Ayub Khan, Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly and lawmaker from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), congratulated Trump and his Vice President-elect JD Vance. “It is hoped that this team will foster better relations between the people of Pakistan and the people of the United States of America,” Khan remarked on X.
PTI echoed this sentiment on its official X handle, congratulating the Republican candidate and his VP-elect while highlighting the respect for the U.S. public’s mandate—a stark contrast to Pakistan’s current political climate.
This expression of goodwill from PTI and Ayub is notable, especially as PTI’s founder, Imran Khan, remains imprisoned. The party has reportedly sought international intervention for Khan’s release, banking on the amicable ties previously shared between Khan and the Trump administration to leverage advantage.
