On Monday, renowned Pakistani journalist Kamal Siddiqi received the Journalists of Courage Impact Award at the East-West Center International Media Conference in Manila, Philippines. Siddiqi is the first Pakistani to be honoured with this biennial award, which recognizes journalists who demonstrate a strong commitment to quality reporting and press freedom under difficult conditions.
Six other journalists, including Sincha Dimara from Inside PNG, Tom Grundym of Hong Kong Free Press, Alan Miller of the News Literacy Project, Soe Myint from Mizzima Media Group, John Nery of Rappler, and Ana Marie Pamintuan of The Philippine Star, also received the award.
In February, Siddiqi expressed his humility on X for being recognized as a Journalist of Courage and Impact. During the four-day conference, he participated in a panel discussing global election reporting alongside journalists from Taiwan, Indonesia, India, South Korea, and the Philippines.
Siddiqi is a senior program officer at the Media Development Investment Fund in South Asia. He has also led the EWC’s alumni association in Karachi. He is a fellow at Stanford University’s Center for Democratic Development and Rule of Law and a senior non-resident fellow at the Atlantic Council.
