The Pak Business Express derailed near the washing line area in Lahore just days after its inauguration by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Authorities are currently working to restore the train to the tracks, and fortunately, no casualties have been reported.
On July 31, 2025, a serious incident occurred when five coaches of the Islamabad Express overturned near the Kala Shah Kaku railway station, located about 15 kilometres from Lahore. More than 150 passengers sustained injuries as the train, which was travelling from Lahore to Rawalpindi, derailed in rugged terrain. Sudden jolts caused the rear coaches to veer off the tracks, but the train narrowly avoided plunging into a ravine. Fortunately, there were no fatalities, and injured passengers received immediate medical attention.
It’s incredibly brilliant.
Welcome to the new era of Pakistan Railways with the inauguration of the Pak Business Express.
This is what ‘real’ transformation looks like, all thanks to Prime Minister @CMShehbaz ‘s visionary leadership for Pakistan.
More success to you Sir pic.twitter.com/T5CD8lZ6fq

The Pak Business Express, launched earlier this week by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, is designed to meet international comfort standards. Its purpose is to upgrade traditional rail services by offering modern amenities. The train derailed in the early hours of the morning, prompting a quick response from rescue teams. Railway officials have confirmed the incident but have not provided an immediate cause. They emphasised that operations would resume shortly.
Passengers on the Islamabad Express described chaotic scenes as the train jolted and ultimately overturned. This accident underscores the persistent safety issues within Pakistan’s rail network, especially in regions with difficult terrain. Investigations are currently underway to identify the cause, with specific attention being paid to maintenance and operational protocols.
