Pakistan has been chosen to host a key International Hockey Federation (FIH) event, an eight-nation Olympic qualifying competition, in Lahore from January 13-21, 2024. This marks the country’s first major international hockey event since the 2004 Champions Trophy.
Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) Secretary Haider Hussain sees this as an opportunity to rekindle the nation’s interest in hockey and pave the way for more international events. The top three teams from this round will proceed to the 2024 Olympics, giving Pakistan a shot at the prestigious event after failing to qualify in 2016 and 2020.
To ensure a successful tournament, the PHF has secured support from the government, Army Welfare Trust, and DHA Lahore. Despite financial constraints, the PHF remains committed to offering international exposure to its players.
