The Red Sea International Film Festival 2025 commenced with a grand opening ceremony in Jeddah. It featured a notable Pakistani presence on its global red carpet. Senior artist Atiqa Odho, veteran TV host Tausiq Haider, and filmmaker-actor Shehzad Nawaz represented Pakistan at the festival’s fifth edition. They received a warm reception from organisers and attendees.
The festival was inaugurated by Saudi Minister of Culture Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan, who emphasised the influential role of culture and cinema in global dialogue. “Culture is one of the most powerful tools of global influence,” Prince Badr stated. He noted that cinema leads in bringing people together and fostering mutual understanding.
Prince Badr highlighted that the festival’s fifth edition reflects the direct support and vision of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. He pointed to the rapid advancement of Saudi Arabia’s cultural sector over the past few years. Prince Badr described it as a foundational pillar for the kingdom’s future.
The Minister outlined the Saudi Ministry of Culture’s work over the past seven years. The focus was on preserving national heritage and promoting a diverse cultural landscape. This includes literature, visual arts, music, crafts, fine arts, and film. He stated that this effort strengthens national identity. It aligns with the ambitions of the younger generation.
Prince Badr also underscored the Red Sea Film Foundation’s role in empowering youth. It supports creative talent and expands Saudi Arabia’s footprint in the international film industry through its year-round programs. He noted these initiatives contribute to economic growth and solidify the Kingdom’s position as a key cinematic destination.
Held under the theme “Loving Cinema,” the festival’s fifth edition assembles filmmakers from various regions. These include the Arab world, Asia, Africa, Europe, and the United States. The event celebrates the unifying power of the seventh art. It provides a prestigious platform for cross-cultural exchange.
