Pakistan Railways is set to revive the ‘Safari Tourist Train’ to showcase the cultural and natural splendour of the Potohar Region.
Safari Tourist Train will begin its route from the historic Golra Station in Islamabad to Attock Khurd. It is scheduled to depart every Sunday at 9 am from Golra Station, with the return trip from Attock set for 6:30 pm; ticket pricing will be based on the accommodation type, including discounts for student groups from educational institutions.
The revival initiative aims to boost tourism by highlighting the region’s rich railway heritage. The train’s journey will encompass stops at Hasan Abdal, Attock, and the historically significant Attock Khurd Railway Station, home to the oldest railway museum.
The Safari Train will traverse the venerable iron girder bridge over the Indus River, connecting the provinces of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Originating from Golra Station, a site of British colonial heritage, this journey allows passengers to explore the extensive Islamabad Railway Museum, which boasts a collection of vintage steam locomotives and historic railway paraphernalia.
Upon reaching Attock Khurd Station, travellers will have the chance to discover the picturesque locales and leisure spots along the banks of the Indus River.
