The Standing Committee on Railways of the National Assembly, led by MNA Ramesh Lal, has directed Pakistan Railways to install three jammers on each train. They also aim to enhance patrolling in sensitive areas to prevent incidents similar to the recent explosion of the Jaffar Express in Sindh.
On October 7, an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated near the Sultan Kot Railway Station at 08:15 AM. This incident derailed five bogies and damaged the track. Seven passengers, including railway staff, sustained minor injuries and were treated at Civil Hospital in Shikarpur.
The Deputy Inspector General of Railways Police reported a remote-controlled blast with four to five explosives. Investigations, supported by sensitive agencies and Frontier Corps, are ongoing, with no perpetrators identified yet.

The committee reviewed past incidents, including a March 11, 2025, hijacking by Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) militants. In this attack, 26 passengers and four security personnel were killed. The military neutralised 33 attackers. They successfully rescued over 400 hostages.
The meeting also addressed railway land management and the Karachi Freight Corridor Project, emphasising comprehensive safety reforms.
The directives signal urgent action to protect passengers amid rising security threats. Jammers and patrols could deter future attacks, boosting confidence.
