Pakistan will observe a nationwide public holiday on Thursday, February 5, to mark Kashmir Solidarity Day, according to an official government notification.
The holiday was announced through a notification issued by the Cabinet Division. The notification states that February 5 will be observed as a public holiday nationwide.
Kashmir Solidarity Day is marked in Pakistan every year on February 5. The day is observed to express solidarity with the people of Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir and to remember those who have lost their lives during the conflict.
According to the Cabinet Division, all government and semi-government offices, banks, and educational institutions will remain closed on February 5. The notification also directs that a one-minute silence be observed at 10:00 am across the country in remembrance of what it describes as the martyrs of Kashmir.
Public holidays announced at the federal level affect government operations, banking services, and educational schedules nationwide. The observance also reflects Pakistan’s longstanding official position on the Kashmir dispute and remains a key date on the national calendar.
Across Pakistan and in Pakistani communities abroad, Kashmir Solidarity Day is marked through rallies, seminars, and conferences organised by political, religious, and civil society groups. Speakers at these events often discuss the Kashmir issue and call for its resolution through peaceful means.
In several parts of the country, participants form human chains on routes leading toward Azad Jammu and Kashmir to symbolise unity and support. Media outlets also air special programming related to the day, while educational institutions organise discussions and debates on Kashmir-related issues.
Authorities are expected to issue additional advisories closer to February 5 regarding security arrangements and public gatherings. No further operational changes have been announced so far.
