Pakistan is poised to advance in automotive technology after Hub Power Company Limited and BYD, a leading Chinese automaker, announced a partnership to introduce electric vehicles (EVs).
Hub Power will collaborate with BYD for local EV production through its subsidiary Hub Power Holdings Limited.
This initiative aligns with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s efforts to attract investments and enhance foreign currency reserves.
The partnership plans to secure land and infrastructure in Pakistan to streamline production, demonstrating Hub Power’s commitment to leveraging BYD’s technological capabilities.
Hub Power highlighted the potential economic benefits and job creation opportunities from local EV production.
Facing challenges like air pollution and rising greenhouse emissions, Pakistan views this project as crucial for achieving sustainable development goals by reducing carbon emissions and fostering clean energy, aligning with global climate change efforts.
BYD has recently overtaken Tesla to become the world’s largest EV manufacturer. It marked significant achievements with record sales in 2023 and leading global new energy vehicle sales for the second consecutive year.
With Pakistan focusing on reducing carbon emissions and adopting eco-friendly transport, BYD’s investment is timely.
BYD’s venture into electric vehicle production in Pakistan may also open export opportunities for Right Hand Drive (RHD) vehicles.
