Pakistan is observing Eidul Fitr today with religious devotion, although celebrations are more subdued due to the country’s ongoing crises and economic challenges.
Trade associations reported that sales before Eid were significantly reduced due to high inflation. Traders observed a 50% decrease in genuine buyers compared to the previous year, as steep increases in food, electricity, and fuel costs have eroded consumers’ purchasing power.
Radio Pakistan reported that Eid congregations were held in mosques and Eidgahs across major cities and towns, with the largest gathering at Islamabad’s Faisal Mosque. Special prayers were offered for the nation’s progress, prosperity, and well-being of the Muslim community.
President Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif attended Eid prayers, praying for the country’s peace, progress, and prosperity. They also prayed for the people of occupied Kashmir and urged citizens not to forget the less fortunate during the festive season.
In their Eid messages, both leaders called for unity among the people, adherence to the teachings of Allah and the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), and contribution to the nation’s progress toward political and economic stability. Prime Minister Shehbaz expressed confidence that his administration would overcome the current challenges, including high inflation, and bring better times for the people.
