Federal Interior Secretary Abdullah Khan Sumbal succumbed to a long-standing illness in Lahore this Wednesday.
Sumbal, who assumed the role of interior secretary on August 20, was en route to the hospital due to worsening health conditions when he passed away. His untimely departure has brought forth a wave of grief and condolences from notable figures in Pakistan.
Interior Minister Sarfraz Ahmed Bugti mourned the loss, acknowledging Sumbal’s remarkable contributions to the civil service of Pakistan and extending his prayers for Sumbal’s family to find fortitude in this time of sorrow.
Additionally, Shehbaz Sharif, the president of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and former prime minister, expressed deep sorrow over Sumbal’s demise. Sharif recalled his two-decade-long acquaintance with Sumbal, appreciating his professionalism and personal integrity, which stood unquestioned throughout his career. Sharif highlighted Sumbal’s key role as a project director in completing the Lahore Ring Road project and his avid interest in reading that set him apart from his peers. He emphasized that Sumbal’s passing was a significant loss for both his family and the nation, which lost a devoted and proficient civil servant. Sharif conveyed his profound sympathies to Sumbal’s family during this distressing period.
