Railway services between Pakistan and Iran, which had been suspended due to heavy rainfall, have now been restored, as confirmed by railway officials.
The rail freight service, including the routes from Quetta to Iran and Iran to Quetta, has resumed operations. This restoration follows the suspension of goods train traffic between the two countries because the railway track was submerged under rainwater.
The train service between Pakistan and Iran has frequently faced disruptions, primarily due to poor railway infrastructure, leading to regular derailments. A goods train from Quetta to Iran derailed near Padag in July, causing a temporary service halt. Similarly, a freight train from Zahedan, Iran, was derailed in Dalbandin, Chagai district, with the track’s poor condition cited as the cause of the accident.
The Pak-Iran freight train service has been restored after extensive repair and rehabilitation work on the railway track damaged by heavy flash floods near Dalbandin. Completing these repairs marks a significant step in ensuring the continuity and reliability of rail services between the two neighbouring countries.
