The New York administration has increased security for the highly anticipated Pakistan-India T20I World Cup 2024 match on June 9.
Reports indicate a terrorist outfit has threatened an attack during the World Cup in New York. Pakistan will play two matches, while India has four in the city.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul has been working with law enforcement for months to ensure the safety of visitors and residents during the Cricket World Cup. Dismissing the threat reports, Hochul said there was “no credible public safety threat at this time.”
Although corroborative proof of the reported threat has yet to be found, the ICC has emphasized that safety and security at the event are its top priorities.
The tournament, commencing on June 1, will see India and Pakistan face off on June 9 in New York. India has won six out of seven T20 World Cup matches against Pakistan.
The T20 World Cup will be held from June 1 to 29 at three US venues and six West Indies. The tournament will begin with the US facing Canada at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas.
Twenty qualifying teams are divided into four groups of five. The top two teams from each group will advance to the Super 8 round. In that stage, qualifying teams will be divided into two groups of four, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the semi-finals. The winners will play the final on June 29.
