Pakistan and India shared a list of their nuclear installations and facilities that cannot be attacked in an escalation of hostilities.
As part of an annual routine between the two neighbors for more than three decades, the lists of nuclear installations and facilities were exchanged per Article II of the 1988-ratified Agreement on Prohibition of Attacks against Nuclear Installations and Facilities.
Both countries must report nuclear plants under this agreement. Since 1992, Pakistan and India have shared the lists of such installations and facilities.
Pakistan’s Foreign Office said in the statement, “Pursuant to the agreement, the list of nuclear installations and facilities in Pakistan was officially handed over to a representative of the Indian High Commission in Islamabad at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday.”
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs also gave a Pakistani delegate their list of nuclear installations and facilities, according to the Foreign Office.
The Kashmir conflict and cross-border terrorism have strained relations between the two countries.
The 2008 Agreement on Consular Access mandates the exchange of these lists.
