Director General (DG) of Passports, Mustafa Jamal Qazi, has announced that the department now prints 40,000 passports daily, doubling its previous output of 20,000 thanks to 10 new modern passport printers.
Furthermore, a spokesperson from the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports (DGIP) addressed the operational hours of passport offices. Despite rumours, Islamabad’s passport offices do not operate 24 hours a day, and there are currently no plans to extend working hours around the clock. However, the spokesperson did mention that proposals to potentially extend operational hours are under consideration, depending on future increases in printing capabilities.
The spokesperson also indicated that services would be expanded across major cities, including Islamabad, to facilitate easier travel and provide benefits to overseas Pakistanis, thereby strengthening Pakistan’s position in global travel.
Pakistani passports, which are issued under the Passport Act of 1974, include Diplomatic, Official, and Ordinary types. Ordinary passports, intended for the general populace, require applicants to meet specific criteria and submit the necessary documentation. Recently, Pakistan has introduced e-passports with enhanced security features to improve document security.
