The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has warned about ongoing heatwave conditions affecting Sindh, southern Punjab, and Balochistan.

Temperatures will increase by 7°C above normal levels by early May 2025. Cities such as Lahore, Peshawar, Sargodha, and Multan are expected to reach or exceed 40°C, while Sukkur, Nawabshah, Mithi, Sibi, and Turbat may experience temperatures of 45°C or higher.

"🌞 Day temperatures to stay 5-7°C above normal in southern regions and 4-6°C in northern areas until April 30th.

According to the PMD, on Sunday, April 27, 2025, Nawabshah recorded the country’s highest temperature at a scorching 48°C. In Karachi, temperatures are expected to range between 36°C and 38°C, with 76% humidity and sea breezes at 9 km/h intensifying discomfort. The PMD advises residents to stay hydrated, avoid direct sunlight, and limit outdoor activities during peak heat hours to prevent heatstroke and dehydration.

Expect mainly hot and dry weather across most parts of the country, with very hot conditions in southern regions. However, isolated areas in upper KP, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir may experience partly cloudy skies with light rain and thunderstorms during the evening/night.

In response to the escalating temperatures, the Punjab Education Department announced early summer school vacations, effective June 1, 2025, to protect students from the extreme heat. The decision follows reports of health risks associated with prolonged exposure to high temperatures, particularly in urban areas. Authorities urge the public to follow safety guidelines as the heatwave matures in the region.
