Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, Director General of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), firmly denied rumours on May 11, 2025, that Pakistan captured an Indian pilot during recent military clashes with India.
Addressing media speculation about an alleged female Indian pilot, Shivangi Singh, being detained, Chaudhry clarified that no pilots are in custody, dismissing social media claims as misinformation. The Indian government echoed this, labelling fake reports and urging the public to avoid spreading unverified narratives.
During a press conference alongside Pakistan Air Force’s Air Vice Marshal Aurangzeb Ahmed and Vice Admiral Raja Rab Nawaz, Chaudhry stated, “I can confirm very clearly that we don’t have any pilot in custody. This is all social media chatter.”

The rumours, amplified by videos on social media platforms, falsely claimed Singh’s aircraft was downed during Pakistan’s Operation Bunyaan al Marsoos, a retaliatory strike following India’s May 9 airstrikes on Pakistani airbases. India’s Press Information Bureau debunked these claims, confirming no pilots were captured.

The speculation emerged amid heightened India-Pakistan tensions, sparked by India’s Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting alleged terrorist sites after the April 22 Pahalgam attack. Pakistan’s Operation Bunyaan al Marsoos struck 26 Indian military targets, including airbases and a BrahMos facility, prompting a U.S.-mediated ceasefire on May 10.
