Pakistan marked its 60th Defence and Martyrs’ Day, coinciding with Eid Milad-un-Nabi, the birthday of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
The day began with a 31-gun salute in Islamabad. The Armed Forces, led by Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Naval Chief Admiral Naveed Ashraf, and Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, paid tribute to the nation’s martyrs and their families.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said, “September 6, 1965, shows the unbreakable spirit of Pakistan. Our brave soldiers, supported by the nation, stopped a stronger enemy’s attack.” They praised the courage that inspires future generations.

The day began with the Armed Forces honouring the martyrs, ghazis, and their families for their sacrifices. Moreover, they continued their duty against external threats and terrorism. Meanwhile, they provided aid during natural disasters, including the ongoing floods. Consequently, the ISPR affirmed, ‘We stand ready to support flood victims and celebrate this day with humility

The military promised to protect Pakistan from all threats. They said, “Any attempt to disrupt our peace will meet a strong response.”
Defence and Martyrs’ Day honours Pakistan’s strength and unity. It remembers those who gave their lives for the country. The Armed Forces’ commitment helps build public trust.
