The government resolved to hire international operators to handle Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi airports to attract foreign investment and provide world-class passenger facilities.
The decision was made during a meeting Friday in Islamabad hosted by the prime minister to address aviation and airports.
Jinnah International Airport Karachi, Allama Iqbal International Airport Lahore, and Islamabad International Airport would be outsourced.
The premier also ordered all departments to outsource efficiently, and transparency should be ensured.
Airport outsourcing was discussed at length, and outsourcing the airports model is a common profit-seeking strategy worldwide.
In the first phase, Islamabad International Airport and Lahore International Airport would be outsourced.
Outsourcing airports would generate revenue for the government and improve traveler facilities.
Pakistan International Airlines’ performance was also discussed (PIA). PIA’s total revenue was Rs172 billion in 2022, the most in its history.
In 2o22, PIA acquired four new A-320 fleets and increased its network. In addition, Wide-body aircraft are being added to PIA’s fleet.
The prime minister praised Khawaja Saad Rafique and other officials for PIA’s performance.
